How to Access Yahoo Mail Using IMAP or POP Server Settings

Yahoo allows you to set its server both in IMAP and POP settings (enabled all the time). POP or Post Office Protocol is an older version of the protocol which helps to download emails from the server directly to the application. On the other hand, IMAP or Internet Message Access Protocol is a newer protocol that allows you to remotely access and manage all of your emails from different devices or email clients.

POP Server Settings for Yahoo Mail:

POP is the one-way sender and receiver of the Yahoo mail both in desktop email clients and mobile apps. You can access, view, move, or delete any mail without hampering the main server. But you can’t have the record of the sent mail as it will not save on the server. Please follow the steps to configure the POP server settings for Yahoo Mail.

Incoming Mail (POP) Server Setting

  • Server – pop.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port – 995
  • Requires SSL – Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server Setting

  • Server – smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port – 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL – Yes
  • Requires TLS – Yes (if available)
  • Requires authentication – Yes

Your login info

  • Email address – Your full Yahoo mail address.
  • Password – Your Yahoo account’s password.
  • Requires authentication – Yes

If you want to discontinue POP access of your Yahoo mail account, remove the above POP settings from the third-party email client or mobile application you are using to access Yahoo mail.

IMAP Server Settings for Yahoo Mail:

IMAP is gaining popularity just after its release. Users consider it as the most user-friendly way to access the Yahoo account on a third-party mail client on a desktop or mobile app. Any action in your Yahoo mail account will be synced with all of your logged-in devices. You can access all your folders from any place, and even your sent folder will be synced with the IMAP setting. Here are the settings you’ll need to configure in your mail client or mobile app.

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server Setting

  • Server – imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port – 993
